Match Report

Tamworth Men’s First XI continued their winning start to the season with a resounding 7-0 home victory over Leicester Panthers.  In the early stages neither side took control of the game but when a goalmouth scramble fell to Ryan Brisco to slam home Tamworth didn’t look back.  The second goal came when Tom Sperrink lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper and Tom Hancox was on hand to finish on the volley.  Town continued to create chances and were aided by the visitors as they were temporarily reduced to 10 men for dissent.  The third goal came late in the half as Hancox showed sharp reactions to deflect Ben Popple’s left wing cross beyond the keeper.

After the break Tamworth continued the onslaught, Sperrink got in on the act as he controlled an aerial pass from Ian Wagstaff before chipping the ball over the keeper and into the corner.  Sperrink added Tamworth’s fifth with a simple first time finish following a right wing cross from Brisco.  Both sides had a player sin binned with Ben Acheson taking time off the pitch for Tamworth following an altercation in host’s D and Nick Pound also saw yellow late in the game after being adjudged to have intentionally broken down play with his feet.  Town were delighted to see Sam Turner rewarded for his tireless running when he tapped in at the far post for his first goal for the first team.  Sperrink completed the scoring and his hat trick when Wagstaff picked him out on the left side of the D and he swept in first time.
