Match Report

Tamworth Men's First XI were beaten 4-1 at Berkswell & Balsall Common in a game which was much closer than the scoreline reflected.  Tamworth had started the game well and although Berkswell had greater possession, Town carried a threat on the break with Tom Sperrink shooting wide from the top of the D when Ryan Brisco played a well weighted pass in.  Berkswell's pressure paid off midway through the half with their forward scoring an excellent reverse stick strike at the near post following a cross from the left.  They doubled their lead soon despite Tamworth protestations that there was more than a hint of a back stick foul in the assist after but Tamworth got a foothold back in the game when Tom Grimshaw broke through and drew the keeper before squaring the ball to Sperrink to slap into backboard.

Tamworth came out strongly following the interval but couldn't find a way through with Berkswell's keeper in fine form denying Dave Langford from a penalty corner.  The home side took advantage re-establishing there two goal lead and Tamworth were left to rue their luck as Cameron Hancox saw a neat lifted effort smoothered before Langford saw a goal bound shot strike Hancox on the foot on the line.  Town commited numbers chasing a way back into the game and the hosts added a further goal on the breakaway.

Tamworth must take heart from a good team performance against a well organised side where had they been more clinical they could well have taken something from this game and now face a tough home fixture versus Ashby on Saturday.
