Match Report

Tamworth kept their third consecutive clean sheet and stormed to their biggest win of the season with a 7-0 win over Evesham at QEMS.

Tamworth started confidently and led early on through Tom Hancox who finished reverse stick into the bottom right hand corner after a one-two with Tom Sperrink.  The lead was doubled soon after when Ryan Briscoe capitalised on a rebound and convert with a low strike inside the far post.  Mike Jones then scored his first goal for the first team this season after a short corner routine broke down he drove into the D and neatly flicked the ball inside the ‘keepers near post.

In the second half Tamworth continued the pressure and the score became 4-0 when Ian Wagstaff broke away down the right and played the ball into Tom Hancox who slipped the ball beyond the onrushing ‘keeper.  Jay Haywood was the next on the scoresheet when he reacted quickest to blocked shot by Briscoe, firing into the roof of the net.  The rout did not end there and, although Pipe was on hand to pull off an excellent  save when left one-on-one, Hancox completed his hatrick mid-way through the half this time converting from close range after a cross-shot by Sperrink.   Sperrink completed the days scoring providing the finishing touch after a goalmouth scramble.

Tamworth’s fate remains in their hands as they sit second with 2 games remaining and next week’s match versus top of the league Redditch looking likely to have a major impact on who will be promoted.
