Match Report

Tamworth got back to winning ways with an all-round team performance which saw them run out 3-2 winners away to Leamington.

After starting brightly Tamworth were camped inside the Leamington half for the first 10 minutes.  The lead was gained midway through the half when Tom Hancox superb driving run resulted in a blocked shot which fell kindly to Tom Sperrink to tap in reverse stick.  The lead was doubled soon after when Ian Wagstaff drag flicked a short corner low to the keepers left.  A tireless display from Tamworth’s midfield trio of Herring, Haywood and Wagstaff kept the away team on top and the lead was extended when a short corner was half cleared and Haywood found Sperrink for a simple short range finish.  Leamington came back strongly but Tamworth took the 3-0 lead into half time.

After the break Tamworth continued to create chances with Sperrink hitting the post and the keeper coming to Leamington’s rescue on numerous occasions.  Leamington reduced the deficit with a controversial goal after the ball was drilled towards the Tamworth goal it was deflected beyond Pipe with Tamworth convinced the final touch took place outside the D.  Buoyed by the goal Leamington came on the attack and when they scored from a short corner the defence had to remain strong with Langford and Cook putting in a number of key tackles to ensure the win.

An important victory for Tamworth going into the Christmas break keeps Tamworth 4thand just 3 points off top spot.
