Match Report

Tamworth Men’s First XI were held to a 3-3 draw on Sunday at home to Buxton.  Despite playing the leagues basement side Town knew they were in for a battle with six first choice players absent and availability poor throughout the club.  This was evident early on as Buxton started stronger and deservedly took the lead when they broke from midfield.  This woke Tamworth and they improved as the half went on grabbing an equaliser when a slip at the back left Ben McFadden to run clean through and round the keeper before striking reverse stick into the empty net.

After the break the game was still in the balance but again Buxton struck first when a quickly taken free hit resulted in a reverse stick shot into the bottom corner only for Tamworth to respond immediately, this time Ben Marshall slotting into the bottom right corner from the tightest of angles with the keeper out of position. Tamworth finally seemed to have gained the momentum in the game but a strike from nowhere gave Buxton the lead for the third time.  Tamworth equalised when Tom Sperrink struck low from a penalty corner but in truth neither side could create the opportunity to win the game and a point each was a fair result.
