Match Report

Tamworth Men’s First XI lost 6-3 in a rearranged away fixture versus Finchfield on Sunday.  They were under pressure from early on and Finchfield opened the scoring with a strike from a penalty corner.  Tamworth worked hard to try and create opportunities but fell further behind from two further goals from open play to go into half time 3-0 down.

After the interval Tamworth stepped up the standard of play and although they conceded a fourth midway through the half they finally got the goal they deserved when Tom Beasley’s shot was blocked by a players arm on the line and Ian Wagstaff emphatically dispatched the resulting penalty flick into the top left corner.  Finchfield were then awarded a penalty flick of their own which they scored before Tamworth replied when Tom Hancox drove into the D and cut the ball back for Tom Sperrink to bundle the ball into the goal.  Ian Wagstaff then scored from a penalty corner with a strike low to the keeper’s right but the game then descended into a nasty affair with Tamworth reduced to nine men when Cook and Herring were yellow carded for offences and a Finchfield forward only receiving yellow for two off the ball incidents.

Tamworth now face an uphill battle to escape relegation with another double header next weekend against Sikh Union and Aldridge & Walsall
