Match Report

Tamworth Men’s First XI picked up their first point of 2020 in a 2-2 home draw against Leamington Khalsa Seconds but it could and should have been more.

Tamworth knew this was a prime opportunity to climb the table against the only team they have beaten this season and flew out of the blocks. Town opened the scoring when Ryan Brisco slipped in Ben Popple to slot the ball under the onrushing keeper.  Town then doubled their lead with Brisco the creator again as he played in Tom Sperrink who squeezed his shot inside the left post. Leamington carried a threat on the break but Town should have extended their lead with chances from open play and penalty corners but had to settle for 2-0 at half time.

The second half was a very different affair as Leamington stepped up their level with Tamworth still looking to strike on the break. The visitors scored early in the half and then levelled the game with 10 minutes to go with the game ending in stalemate.

Tamworth travel to Old Halesonians having climbed off the bottom of the table with this point but still adrift of safety.
