Match Report

Tamworth Men’s First XI were beaten 5-1 away at Ludlow on Saturday to leave them mired in relegation trouble. Tamworth could only take a bare eleven with a number of absentees and looked to keep things tight in the early stages. Tom Hancox and Ryan Brisco did their best to give Town an attacking threat and their efforts paid off when they linked up for the opening goal. Hancox played the ball out to Brisco on the left and he worked his way into the D before his reverse stick shot squirmed under the keeper to give Tamworth a surprise lead. Tamworth then went close with a drag flick shot from Ian Wagstaff going just wide.  Unfortunately this was as good at it got for the visitors as Ludlow struck back with two goals from open play and a converted penalty corner to lead 3-1 at the break.

The next goal after the restart would be crucial and although Tamworth limited Ludlow to minimal chances they couldn’t muster enough attacking threat and eventually succumbed as Ludlow scored twice to add some gloss to the scoreline.

Relegation rivals Edgbaston picked up a surprise win this week meaning Town must find at least two wins from the final five games but face another tough task this week as they host top of the table Bromsgrove
