Tamworth Men’s First XI got back to winning ways with a convincing 5-1 win at home to Bloxwich on Saturday.  Bloxwich had started the better side but despite having the majority of possession Tamworth struck first with their first serious attack of the game when Tom Hancox scored a superb solo goal after driving down the right wing and along the baseline before rounding the keeper and flicking in reverse stick.  This gave Town a confidence boost and they doubled the lead soon after when Ryan Brisco released Tom Sperrink who rounded the keeper and flicked beyond the defender on the line.  The visitors continued to pose a threat but created little from open play with Ben Acheson thwarting their runs on the break and Tamworth stretched their lead further when Tom Grimshaw picked out Sperrink and he struck reverse stick through the keeper’s legs.

After the break Tamworth showed a great deal of patience and controlled possession, adding  a fourth goal midway through the half with Hancox touching a cross field pass beyond the advancing keeper before tapping into the unguarded net.   Tamworth then scored a fifth for only the third time this season as Sperrink completed his hatrick, flicking in on the rebound following Ian Wagstaff’s strike from a penalty corner.   Bloxwich added their consolation goal with a crisp strike into the corner from their own penalty corner late on as keeper Tony Banks was denied a deserved clean sheet.
