TAMWORTH Hockey Club are backing Team GB at the Olympics and urging anyone inspired by the games to come and try their hand at hockey locally.

The Hockey Club are currently gearing up for the new season ahead which begins in September.

And they are on the look out for any new recruits who want to join one of their men's, ladies or junior teams.

Stephanie Lawrence, Captain of the Ladies First XI, said: "We are looking for players of all abilities and experience to join us at this vibrant and friendly club.

"We are very fortunate to have our own clubhouse close by at Hints Lane, Hopwas enabling us to host many successful and lively social events throughout the year.

"We would be especially interested in experienced players to strengthen and increase squad sizes."

The ladies currently play in Midlands Division Two while the Men's First XI are newly promoted to West Midlands Premier after being crowned champions in the 2011/2012 season of West Midlands One.

In total, Tamworth run four men's teams and three women's teams; as well as developing new talent within their thriving junior section.

Men's First Team captain, Ian Wagstaff said: "We are a good club and have some good young players coming through at the club as well.

"With it being Olympic year, interest in hockey and other sports is likely to rise and I am sure that we'll be looking to use that to attract a few more people into the sport."

All matches and training sessions (Wednesday evenings) are held at Landau Forte Academy (QEMS), Tamworth.

Tamworth will be holding the annual club open day on Saturday, September 1.
