TAMWORTH Hockey and Cricket Club were bowled over to hear that their bid for cash to renovate their clubhouse and facilities had been successful.

The clubs, which share premises in Plantation Lane in Hopwas with Tamworth Squash Club, were awarded £50,000 of National Lottery funding.

Their planned upgrade will include re-roofing the clubhouse, redesigning the changing rooms and refurbishing the main clubhouse. Mike Nield, chairman of Tamworth Cricket Club, said: "It's unbelievable – tremendous news, we're really delighted."

The club's bid was put together by 28-year-old Stephanie Lawrence, Tamworth Hockey Club's Ladies 1st team captain.

Stephanie said: "We're all really, really excited and can't wait to get the work started. It was a lot of hard work putting the bid together, but it was worth it."

The Plantation Lane site is home to five senior and seven junior cricket teams and four mens and three ladies hockey teams, as well as the squash club.
